Today, my Vista desktop running in my powerful HP laptop (and I don't mean it in a sarcastic way) came up running a display of 800x600...geesh while it brought back some good ol memories, I couldn't help but to wonder who took my 1680x1050 resolution! I want it back and I want it now!
I then changed the display settings and although Vista confirmed that the change will go in effect, nothing happened. No setting would work. It seems that at times Vista tends to use Safe Mode features and today was my lucky day. I noticed that the Nvidia Quadro graphics card was not detected..hmm..the only way I was able to get it working again was by going into safe mode and change the vga card to a different setting, reboot it and it now seems to be running ok once again.
